Qatar participates in 32nd meeting of GCC electricity, water undersecretaries

Qatar joined the 32nd meeting of undersecretaries of electricity and water ministries from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations. The gathering was conducted through video conferencing and served as a prelude to an upcoming ministerial session focused on electricity and water matters, planned for October 5 in Bahrain. Engineer Abdullah bin Ali Al Theyab, President of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), spoke on behalf of Qatar at the event.

Kahramaa announced that discussions at the meeting encompassed the draft agenda, a review of past decisions' implementation, and an examination of joint GCC projects in the electricity and water realms. The agenda also included updates on water interconnection efforts among GCC states, the activities of the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority, and suggestions to bolster the electrical interconnection system and bolster cooperation and energy exchange among member states.

The meeting delved into the progress of various GCC committees such as the Water Resources Committee, the Committee on Electricity and Water Conservation and Customer Services, and the New and Renewable Energy Committee, along with pertinent programs, workshops, and events centered around the electricity and water sectors. Several initiatives and proposals were deliberated, aimed at bolstering the security and sustainability of electricity and water systems, and improving coordination among the GCC states.

Engineer Abdullah bin Ali Al Theyab underlined the significance of further fortifying joint Gulf cooperation in the electricity and water sectors, stressing the necessity to devise initiatives and projects that bolster energy and water security, elevate infrastructure efficiency and sustainability, and foster integration among the GCC states to serve their shared interests.
