Qatar investors urged to explore Colombo Port City opportunities

First Vice Chairman of Qatar Chamber, Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Twar Al Kuwari, convened a meeting with a delegation from the Port City Colombo Economic Commission of Sri Lanka. The delegation was led by Harsha Amarasekera, Chairman of the Commission. In attendance were Qatar Chamber Board Member, Mohamed bin Ahmed Al-Obaidli, and Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Qatar, HE Roshan Sithara Khan Azard.

The meeting aimed to explore ways to bolster collaboration between the private sectors of Qatar and Sri Lanka, bolster trade and economic ties, and boost bilateral trade. Discussions centered on introducing Qatari investors to high-value opportunities within the Port City Colombo.

Mohamed bin Twar shared that the Qatar Chamber is eager to bridge communication between Qatari and Sri Lankan business communities. He highlighted that the Port City Colombo provides a variety of investment opportunities, which could serve as an essential gateway for Qatari investors expanding into the Sri Lankan market.

The Chamber encourages Qatari investors to investigate the possibilities offered by the City and contemplate forming joint ventures with Sri Lankan partners in sectors of mutual interest. Port City Colombo is a significant urban development project and multi-use Special Economic Zone situated in Sri Lanka’s capital. Spanning approximately 269 hectares of reclaimed land, the project seeks to attract foreign direct investment and establish Sri Lanka as a regional business and services hub.

Investment opportunities span financial services, information technology, professional services, shipping and logistics, tourism and hospitality, and regional headquarters.
