‘Promote him’: Internet praises cop who clung to smugglers’ car roof for 40 km

A gripping video captured the internet's admiration for a Tamil Nadu Police constable's daring act. Clinging to the roof of a speeding car for nearly 40 kilometers, Grade 1 Constable M Velmurugan thwarted an escape attempt by suspected smugglers allegedly transporting prohibited tobacco products. The dramatic clip, posted on X by the Tamil Nadu Police, showed the white Hyundai Creta racing along a highway in Coimbatore as the constable held firm to prevent the suspects from fleeing.

Promptly responding to information about the fleeing vehicle, a highway patrol team intercepted the suspects, eventually arresting three men, reportedly from Rajasthan. Director General of Police Dr Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal lauded Constable Velmurugan's courage, quick thinking, and unwavering commitment to duty during the dangerous interception.

The video's swift spread on social media sparked a wave of praise, with netizens urging his immediate promotion to a higher rank.
