Police officer escapes stabbing after knife hits belt at Cheras Station

A police officer narrowly avoided serious harm when a 54-year-old individual allegedly brandished a knife and attempted to stab him in the abdomen at the Batu 9 Police Station in Cheras early Saturday morning. The incident unfolded around 12:10 AM when the officer, on duty, was approached by a man on a motorcycle seeking entry into the station compound.

Upon opening the gate, the officer engaged the man to inquire about his purpose of visit. However, the man failed to respond to the officer's questions and dismounted his motorcycle. The suspect then allegedly retrieved a 20cm knife from a storage box on the bike and attempted to stab the officer in the right side of his abdomen.

Fortunately, the officer's belt intercepted the blade, preventing a more severe injury. The officer then engaged the suspect in a struggle, with assistance from two other station policemen who helped restrain him. During the altercation, one of the officers assisting in the arrest sustained cuts on both palms. An initial assessment revealed that the 54-year-old suspect had no prior criminal record or outstanding cases.

Police seized the 20cm knife for further investigation. The individual was detained for investigation under Section 28A of the Criminal Procedure Code. Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind the man's visit to the station and the reason he possessed the weapon.
