Pakistan Qualifies for Asian Games Semifinals

Pakistan has secured a spot in the Asian Games 2026 men's cricket semi-finals after their quarter-final match against Hong Kong, China, was called off due to heavy rain at Korogi Sports Park. The game, scheduled to start around toss time, was abandoned after persistent showers left most of the ground waterlogged, prompting officials to rule out any possibility of play.

Pakistan qualified for the semi-finals based on their higher ICC T20I ranking, while Hong Kong emerged from Group B as runners-up, having defeated Malaysia by eight wickets but falling short against Oman by 41 runs. The Green Shirts entered the tournament as one of four seeded teams, along with India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. Pakistan's journey to Japan, following a training camp in Karachi, was not without its challenges; a practice session in Nisshin was also disrupted by overnight rain and a wet outfield.

The team, led by captain Sahibzada Farhan and coached by Mike Hesson, will now face the winner of Tuesday's quarter-final between Bangladesh and Malaysia in the semi-final on Thursday at the same venue. This was the third T20 match between Pakistan and Hong Kong, with Pakistan triumphing in both previous encounters at the 2022 Asia Cup and the 2023 Asian Games.

Pakistan also secured bronze in the men's cricket event at the 2010 Asian Games. Another quarter-final, this time between India and Afghanistan, was similarly abandoned due to rain, with India advancing as the higher-ranked side and will face the victor of the Sri Lanka-Nepal quarter-final. The semi-finals are set to take place on October 1, followed by the bronze-medal match and final on October 3.
