Nigeria at 66: Labour Coalition WoPU endorses President Tinubu as most viable candidate for 2027 presidency

The Working People United (WoPU), a coalition representing workers, professionals, and artisans, has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 Nigerian general election. At the 66th Independence Thanksgiving Service in Asaba, WoPU's Coordinator-General, Comrade Prince Williams Eniredonana Akporeha, praised the President's leadership over the past three and a half years, highlighting his bold and courageous approach to tackling challenges that past governments had shied away from.

Akporeha emphasized that President Tinubu is the only current contender with the vision and capacity to restore Nigeria's greatness and build upon the foundation laid by the nation's founding fathers. The coalition outlined several key policies of the Tinubu administration, such as the removal of fuel subsidies, which they believe has generated funds for grassroots development; the creation of Nigeria's first private refinery; efforts to ensure a steady petroleum supply across the country; and the promotion of state police and resource control, which WoPU argues will enhance security, reduce corruption, and foster equitable development.

They also noted that the floating of the naira has improved Nigeria's export competitiveness, attracted foreign investment, and reduced the nation's reliance on volatile oil revenues, attributes they consider unique to President Tinubu. Akporeha, a former President of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), stressed that Tinubu's motivations are rooted in national progress rather than personal gain.

He concluded by asserting that Tinubu embodies resilience and tenacity, qualities essential for steering Nigeria through its current challenges, and expressed confidence that the nation's greatness is attainable under his leadership. WoPU plans to launch nationwide mass sensitisation campaigns to mobilise support for the President's Renewed Hope Agenda, targeting workers and young Nigerians.
