NCPTA clarifies GH¢200 cap on PTA dues and levies per parent

The National Council of Parents-Teacher Associations (NCPTA-Ghana) has clarified that the approved Parents-Teacher Association (PTA) dues and levies for each parent remain GH¢200 per semester. This sum breaks down to GH¢50 in PTA dues and GH¢150 as a levy. The dues are meant to support administrative tasks, while the levy finances PTAs' projects in schools.

Christian Aikins Atsu, the President of NCPTA-Ghana, stated that any PTA seeking to collect more than the approved GH¢200 must first seek approval from the association's national leadership. This clarification came during an Extraordinary National Conference of NCPTA-Ghana held from August 25 to 27, 2026, at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Hall.

Atsu addressed concerns over unauthorized and excessive collections by some PTAs nationwide in an interview with the Ghana News Agency. He also cautioned PTA executives against allowing school principals to influence them to accept unauthorized payments or use non-approved NCPTA receipt books. He warned that such practices could damage the credibility of PTA leaders and harm the association's reputation.

The NCPTA-Ghana President urged PTA leaders to strictly adhere to the approved charges, ensure proper receipting of payments, and maintain accurate records of the funds collected. He also encouraged parents and guardians who are asked to pay more than the authorized amount to seek clarification from the relevant PTA executives. Atsu emphasized that NCPTA-Ghana is committed to enhancing collaboration among parents, teachers, and school authorities to improve education quality in Ghana.
