Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde Calls CJP 'Congress Jitao Party', Says 'Janta Is Watching' Amid October 2 Protest Row

Mumbai's Mayor Ritu Tawde recently criticized the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which she labeled as the "Congress Jitao Party." She asserted that the group operates in the interest of the Congress and that the people are observing their actions. "They have their freedom to do whatever they want to, we'll do our work. The Janta is watching all of it," Tawde stated.

This comment followed the CJP's announcement of a "Jail Bharo Andolan" in Mumbai on October 2, in response to the Mumbai Police denying permission for a proposed protest at Shivaji Park. The CJP founder, Abhijeet Dipke, called for a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the party's demands regarding the Election Commission and Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The CJP's plan to hold the protest on Gandhi Jayanti emerged from a social media post by Dipke. He vowed that if the protest was not granted permission, the CJP would proceed with the "Jail Bharo Andolan" on October 2. The CJP highlighted a 2013 Bombay High Court order, a subsequent Maharashtra government resolution, and concerns about noise pollution and traffic congestion as reasons for the police's denial of the protest permit.

Authorities also noted the park's residential status and the presence of hospitals nearby. The Mumbai Police have advised the organizers to seek an alternative venue and resubmit their application to the relevant authorities.
