Mumbai: 18-Year-Old Brain-Dead Donor Gives New Hope To Multiple Patients Through Organ Donation At Mulund's Fortis Hospital

Mumbai, September 28, 2026: An 18-year-old brain-dead man from Mulund, Soumil Vishal Nadkarni, became an organ donor at Fortis Hospital, granting multiple patients a renewed opportunity for survival. Soumil was pronounced brain-dead on September 26 due to severe cerebral swelling, after which his parents agreed to organ donation following counseling by the ICU team.

His liver was divided and transplanted into an 67-year-old woman at Fortis Mulund and a six-year-old boy at another hospital. Soumil's heart was also transplanted at Fortis Mulund to a 15-year-old boy from Karad, Maharashtra. One kidney was transplanted into a 64-year-old resident of Mulund, while the second kidney was allocated to a hospital in a different city.

Soumil's corneas were donated to the Shree KBO Drashti Foundation. Although the family consented to donating his lungs, pancreas, and small bowel, these organs remained unused as suitable recipients could not be found. The donation was organized by the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) Mumbai, together with medical professionals, nurses, and support teams from both donor and recipient hospitals.

Soumil's mother, a medical professional, recognized the importance of organ donation and consented to the process, marking the 10th cadaveric organ donation at Fortis Mulund in 2026 and the 47th in Mumbai this year.
