MoFA, ABC Oyeasase Yie to establish $50m organic fertiliser facility

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has entered into an agreement with ABC Oyeasase Yie Ltd to construct a $50 million organic fertiliser blending facility in Ghana's Eastern Region. This initiative aims to bolster domestic production of organic fertiliser, enhance soil health, and aid the realization of the government's Feed Ghana Programme.

Signed in Accra, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) also seeks to generate employment and encourage sustainable agricultural practices. Dr Eric Opoku, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, highlighted the benefits of organic fertiliser for food production and soil health, emphasizing its role in protecting soil and boosting crop yields.

Once production begins, the MoFA plans to procure the company's products to support the Feed Ghana Programme. ABC Oyeasase Yie Ltd's Director, Samuel Adimado, expressed the company's commitment to increasing food production through sustainable soil management. The organic-based fertiliser, he explained, would supply vital nutrients to crops, improve soil structure, and enhance water retention for better crop yields.

Suitable for both conventional and organic farmers, the product aims to offer farmers an additional method to improve soil productivity. The project exemplifies the increasing public-private sector collaboration aimed at advancing Ghana's agricultural transformation and bolstering domestic production of agricultural inputs.
