Manso Datano bans one week funeral observation to ease financial burden on families

The Traditional Council of Manso Datano, located in the Ashanti Region, has announced a ban on the one-week funeral observance to alleviate the financial strain on local families. The decision, made by the Queen Mother of Manso Datano, Nana Nyame Pomaa, will become effective from October 6, 2026, and will remain indefinite. Nana Nyame Pomaa explained that the council unanimously agreed on this decision after thorough discussions about the economic hardships families face when organizing funeral rites.

The traditional authorities stated that this move aims to lessen the burden on bereaved families, who already struggle with the loss of a loved one. Funeral gatherings, typically lasting a week and involving expenses such as food, drinks, accommodation, and logistical arrangements, are deeply rooted in Ghanaian culture. By eliminating this practice in Manso Datano, the council hopes to provide some relief to families grappling with financial difficulties during such a trying time.

The ban will be enforced throughout the community, with the traditional council responsible for ensuring adherence to the directive.
