Man Jailed 10 Years For Defiling Girl, 11

Tibini Atta, a 37-year-old man from Kpandai District in the Northern Region, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl. According to a report by Citinewsroom, the crime took place on September 24, 2026, when the victim accompanied Atta to a farm. Police sources indicate that Atta had sexual intercourse with the girl, causing injuries that required medical attention.

The offense was reported to the Kpandai Police by the victim's uncle, a 25-year-old farmer, at approximately 2:55 p.m. on the same day. The victim was subsequently admitted to the Kpandai District Hospital for treatment. Police investigators visited the hospital and learned that due to the severity of her injuries, the victim should be transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further medical care.

Atta appeared before the Gender Circuit Court in Tamale on September 25, 2026, where he pleaded guilty and received his sentence. The Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Tamale has been in contact with the victim, who is receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital. Her condition is being closely monitored, and the police command stated that they will continue to work with the hospital and other stakeholders to ensure her recovery and provide necessary support.
