Man City CEO tells EFC board club will clear their name

Manchester City's CEO, Ferran Soriano, pledged to City's board on Monday that the club would do everything in its power to clear their name in the ongoing financial misconduct case. Soriano, who serves on EFC's board, clarified that resolving the matter would likely take years to conclude. Soriano also chose not to comment on the club's alleged 114 breaches of the Premier League's financial rules, per sources familiar with the discussions.

The ongoing investigation into City has City on the defensive, with the club expected to appeal the findings and consistently deny any wrongdoing. The EFC's General Assembly, which convenes 500 of its 850 members in Copenhagen, will serve as a backdrop to these proceedings, taking place on Tuesday. This case adds a domestic element to the broader governance debate, spotlighting financial regulation, enforcement, and the power dynamics between influential clubs and governing bodies.

UEFA President Nasser Al-Khelaifi is set to address delegates, alongside UEFA Chief Executive Aleksander Ceferin, while FIFA President Gianni Infantino is expected to attend but is unlikely to do so due to the FIFA delegation's representation being led by Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom. FIFA President Infantino has previously advocated for an independent external review of FIFA's governance and decision-making in light of the collapse of a plan to incorporate private investment into its commercial rights business.
