Leics get partial points reprieve but stay in limbo

Leicestershire Cricket Club received a partial points reprieve following their County Championship deduction, but their Division One status remains uncertain. The original eight-point deduction, imposed in September for breaching pitch regulations in a match against Glamorgan, was reinstated but the 19-point penalty remains in place.

This means Leicestershire now trails Essex by 17 points and could be relegated if their appeal fails. The Cricket Regulator raised a question with the Cricket Discipline Panel about whether the 19-point penalty under the County Championship playing conditions should have been considered when deciding the proportionality of the original sanction.

Despite the reinstated points, Leicestershire has no intention of changing its stance on the initial finding, as they plan to continue with their appeal focusing on the appeal process and the evidence presented.
