Korea Signs Space Cooperation MOU With Mexico

The Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Mexico's Ministry of Digital Transformation and Telecommunications (ATDT) to foster space cooperation for peaceful purposes. This agreement, signed in Mexico City on Sep. 24, aims to support domestic space companies in entering Mexico's national satellite network establishment project.

The two institutions will collaborate across various fields, including space science, earth observation, information and communications, new technology development, ground station engineering, space exploration, and technological capacity building. This partnership is particularly relevant to Mexico's current focus on large-scale space infrastructure projects, such as a small constellation satellite network for earth observation to address climate change, disasters, and resource management.

Mexico is also advancing the introduction of next-generation communication satellites to bridge the digital divide and secure communication sovereignty. As part of the agreement, KASA plans to dispatch a joint public-private delegation to Mexico later this year to strengthen business networking and promote domestic technology, thereby paving the way for market entry.

KASA Administrator Oh Tae-seok expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating that it comes at a crucial time when Mexico is actively pursuing its national satellite network establishment and space development. He emphasized KASA's commitment to enhancing space development capabilities by combining the technological strengths and demands of both countries while ensuring practical benefits for domestic space companies in the Latin American market.
