Kano CP directs police commanders to remain neutral ahead of 2027 elections

The Kano State Commissioner of Police has instructed operational commanders throughout the state to maintain neutrality, professionalism, and impartiality in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections. This directive was issued on September 28, 2026, during a strategic meeting on election security management held at the Police Officers’ Mess in Bompai, Kano.

The meeting, covered by Kano State Commissioner of Police CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, brought together area commanders, divisional police officers, heads of tactical and operational units, and other senior officers. Bakori expressed commendation for the officers' dedication to crime prevention and control, which had contributed to the state's relative peace. He emphasized the force's constitutional duty to ensure equal opportunities for all political parties and actors.

Bakori warned officers against engaging in partisan politics or compromising the electoral process, promising disciplinary action for such violations. He stressed the importance of respecting human rights and the rule of law while performing their duties, stating that "public trust is the cornerstone of effective policing." The Commissioner urged the officers to enhance cooperation with communities and increase the use of intelligence-led policing.

Bakori also called on police personnel to serve selflessly and preserve public confidence in the police force. He affirmed the Kano State Police Command's commitment to ensuring security before, during, and after the 2027 general elections.
