Hrithik Roshan’s Rs 25 billion fortune: From sleeping on mats to stardom

Hrithik Roshan is now among India's wealthiest actors, with an estimated fortune of Rs 25 billion according to the Hurun India Rich List 2026. The actor ranks fourth among Indian actors on the prestigious list, behind Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Salman Khan. This figure includes Hrithik's business interests, primarily through his HRX brand.

The financial journey of Hrithik's family, however, was vastly different during his formative years. In an old interview with Zee ETC Bollywood, Hrithik recalled his father Rakesh Roshan's financial struggles after the 1997 film Koyla. It was during this period that Hrithik saw his father in tears, struggling to make ends meet. The financial difficulties were also evident in their living conditions - at one point, Hrithik's family had to move into a house with only walls and floors, where they initially slept on mats before gradually acquiring furniture.

Rakesh Roshan, determined to give his son a better start in the film industry, took a significant financial risk. The biggest gamble came when he decided to produce Hrithik's debut film, Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, released in 2000. The movie went over budget by approximately Rs 30 million, and Rakesh had to mortgage his house and cars to finance the project.

Hrithik only learned of this financial strain after the film's completion, when his mother revealed the extent of the sacrifices made. Even if the film had not performed well, Rakesh had to move elsewhere as per his own admission in an earlier interview.
