Ho Chi Minh City publishes list of over 684,000 tax codes to be cleansed

The Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department and its branch offices have released an extensive list, encompassing over 684,570 business entities and individuals, whose tax identification numbers fall under statuses 03 and 06. This particular classification signifies either cessation of operations without proper termination of the tax identification number or non-operation at the registered address, as notified by the tax authorities.

The Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department unveiled a list of 19,198 taxpayers who fall under status 03 and 06. Among these, 9,248 taxpayers are under status 03, indicating they have stopped operational activities but have not yet completed the necessary steps to officially cancel their tax identification numbers. Another 9,950 taxpayers are under status 06, meaning they are not conducting business at their registered locations.

The city's 29 branch tax offices collectively published a list of 665,372 entities categorized under statuses 03 and 06. This figure includes businesses, organizations, and individuals, encompassing business households and companies. The lists have been made accessible on the tax department's website, prominently displayed at tax offices, and delivered directly to the People's Committees of the relevant administrative units.

Analysis of the data reveals that businesses and organizations under status 06 constitute the bulk of the cases, accounting for 63.1 percent of the total. Tax Office No. 2, which supervises the area previously managed by the former Thu Duc city, leads with more than 71,000 taxpayers under statuses 03 and 06. Other areas with substantial numbers include Tax Office No. 16, accommodating nearly 59,000 cases from the former Tan Binh District, Tax Office No. 7, which covers the former District 7, Tax Office No. 17 for the former Tan Phu District, and Tax Office No. 12 for the former District 12, each housing over 43,000 businesses and business households under statuses 03 and 06.

In contrast, Tax Office No. 20, responsible for the former Can Gio District, has a significantly smaller figure of 1,029 cases.

The release of this data is part of the "Tax Identification Number Cleansing – Removing Bottlenecks in Business Operations" initiative. The complete lists consist of personal identification details, tax identification numbers, addresses, and the respective tax authorities responsible. They have been disseminated across various platforms, including the tax sector's website, physical tax office displays, and direct mail to local People's Committees.

Authorities have urged individuals listed on the tax cleansing campaign to reach out to the tax authorities for assistance in navigating the required procedures for the cancellation of their tax identification numbers. The tax cleansing process has often presented challenges for businesses and organizational entities classified under statuses 03 and 06, causing substantial financial strain.

In response to feedback from the business community, associations, and consulting firms, the General Department of Taxation has committed to studying the situation and proposing the development of legal frameworks to alleviate the difficulties faced by taxpayers with tax identification numbers categorized under statuses 03 and 06.
