Hasmah angkat martabat wanita, kata PAS

Dr Hasmah Ali, a pioneer Malaysian Malay female doctor, passed away at the National Heart Institute (IJN) around 9:25 AM today at the age of 100, according to the official statement from the petalang jaya news agency. PAS, Malaysia's opposition party, hailed Dr Hasmah Ali as a woman who helped elevate the status of Malaysian women in various fields, including health, education, and economy during the tenure of former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Setiausaha Agung Takiyuddin Hassan expressed the loss to the family and the entire Malaysian people with the demise of Dr Hasmah Ali, her wife, mother, and beloved grandmother at the IJN in the morning. Speaking through a Facebook post, PAS Communications Chief Fadhli Shaari regarded Hasmah as a revered woman, known not only for her medical contributions but also as a prominent figure in society.

He stated that throughout Dr Mahathir's long life, she was always by his side, through various phases of happiness and sorrow, whether at the height of national leadership or thereafter. Dr Hasmah, born on July 12, 1926, was one of the early Malay female doctors and served in public health before actively participating in various community activities, particularly related to health and charity.

She married Mahathir on August 5, 1956, and had four biological children: Marina, Mirzan, Mokhzani, and Mukhriz, along with three adopted children: Melinda, Mazhar, and Maizura.
