Guanajuato will host a free outdoor Mexican-French circus spectacle this weekend as Cervantino Festival approaches

This weekend, the historic city of Guanajuato will be transformed into an open-air circus for a free performance as part of the 54th International Cervantino Festival. The spectacular, titled "Vértigo," will take place at Plaza Allende, a charming square adjacent to the Cervantes Theater. The 60-minute show, presented by Cirko de Mente, a contemporary-circus company from Mexico City, will feature acrobats, tightrope walkers, dancers, and musicians performing high above the crowd in an enchanting aerial display.

The aerial circus spectacle, created by French choreographer Rachid Ouramdane, musician Christophe Chassol, and highliner Nathan Paulin, adapts a piece originally performed at the Grand Palais in Paris. The Guanajuato rendition, developed in collaboration with Andrea Peláez, co-founder of Cirko de Mente, and other Mexican artists, showcases the rich cultural exchange between France and Mexico as part of the festival's 200th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

"Vértigo" will be performed in Plaza Allende on Saturday, October 3, at 9 p.m., providing Guanajuato's residents and visitors with a unique and unforgettable experience. The festival, running from October 3 to October 18, will feature over 200 performances by more than 2,750 artists, including headliners like Mike Patton's Italian-song project Mondo Cane, Australia's Bangarra Dance Theatre, and Colombian salsa band Grupo Niche.

Other notable performers include Germany's Ensemble Modern, Colombia's Grupo Niche, and Austria's Camerata Salzburg, along with renowned Mexican artists such as tenor Arturo Chacón Cruz and Mariachi Gama 1000.
