Governor exited GoldBod Board since May– BoG

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has confirmed that its Governor, Dr Johnson Asiama, was no longer part of the Board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) as of May 11, 2026. The clarification comes in response to recent public discussions about the Bank's involvement with GoldBod. According to a statement released by the BoG's Communications Department on September 28, 2026, Dr Asiama had not attended any meetings or carried out any activities with the GoldBod Board since his departure.

The Bank explained that, in line with Section 4 of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), it could be represented on the GoldBod Board by either the Governor or a Bank official with a rank not lower than Director. Consequently, the BoG named its Second Deputy Governor, Mrs Matilda Asante-Asiedu, as its representative on the GoldBod Board. Mrs Asante-Asiedu has since taken on this role to fulfill the statutory requirement, the statement affirmed.

The BoG reiterated its dedication to upholding high standards of governance and transparency in its operations. Additionally, the Bank pledged its continued commitment to avoiding any genuine or perceived conflicts of interest. This statement was made in reaction to the recent public commentary concerning the Bank's representation on the GoldBod Board.
