GoldBod dismisses alleged rift with BoG over Governor’s exit from board

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has denied allegations of tension with the Bank of Ghana (BoG) following the BoG Governor's decision to no longer personally serve on its governing board. GoldBod stated that the BoG Governor's choice to appoint the Second Deputy, Matilda Asante-Asiedu, to represent him on the Board was simply due to his hectic schedule.

The board explained that this arrangement is in line with the GoldBod Act, 2025 (Act 1140), which permits the BoG Governor to either serve personally or appoint a representative. Some individuals have misconstrued the Governor's statement at the last MPC meeting, in which he claimed to have "resigned" from the governing Board of GoldBod five months ago, as evidence of a dispute between the two institutions.

However, GoldBod emphasized that such perceptions are incorrect and misleading, as they disregard the GoldBod Act and the Governor's decision to nominate a representative. The board reiterated that the Governor's decision does not indicate any issues within GoldBod or a rift between GoldBod and the Bank of Ghana, but rather reflects a misunderstanding of the Act and the Governor's circumstances.

The GoldBod reiterated its close collaboration with the Bank of Ghana, emphasizing that it remains the primary source of foreign exchange generation for the country, working closely with the BoG on a daily basis.
