Ghana Institution of Surveyors pushes for Governing Council Bill, conference reforms

The Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS) is actively advocating for the passage of its Governing Council Bill, once Cabinet approved the legislation. The bill's president, Surveyor Emmanuel Kofi Cobbold, stated that it is expected to be presented to Parliament during the next session for review. At the 2026 Annual Conference of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors, Cobbold called for stakeholder support to push the legislative process forward, describing the bill as a crucial step towards enhancing the institution's governance structure.

The organization is also contemplating a significant overhaul of its conference program by merging its various divisional conferences into one single institutional service week. Cobbold explained that this change is intended to address concerns raised by employers about disruptions to workflow and the financial strain of sending staff to numerous conferences annually.

He further stated that the 2026 divisional conferences might be the last under the existing system, with future events potentially consolidated into one major institutional event. The GhIS believes that these proposed modifications will streamline operations, lower costs for employers, and reduce the impact of conferences on workplace productivity.

Therefore, the institution is seeking support from stakeholders to facilitate the implementation of these reforms while the Governing Council Bill moves towards parliamentary deliberation.
