Ghana-China programme opens AI pathways for young Ghanaians

Ghana's Ambassador to China, Kojo Bonsu, inaugurated a youth-focused Artificial Intelligence (AI) talent development program this week. The China-Ghana Youth AI Talent Development Programme aims to equip young Ghanaians with the skills necessary to create technology solutions for their home country. The initiative, launched during Ambassador Bonsu's visit to Zhoukou, a key inland port in China, expands on the Ambassador's existing Gen Z AI Club initiative.

This program is being carried out in collaboration with Chinese technology firm APUS Technology Co., Ltd. As part of the program, Zhoukou Normal University will provide specialized AI courses and scholarships to selected Ghanaian students. The primary objective of this initiative is to expand Ghana-China cooperation beyond traditional sectors like trade and infrastructure by fostering skills development, technological advancement, and youth innovation.

During the program's launch, Ambassador Bonsu emphasized Africa's youthful population and the immense potential of young people to develop tailored technology solutions for local challenges. He further explained that the program would help Ghanaian youth create practical AI applications for crucial sectors of the Ghanaian economy, such as agriculture, healthcare, and education.

The Ambassador urged participants to prioritize learning, innovation, and leadership during this opportunity. In addition to education, the program also seeks to connect training to employment and entrepreneurship prospects. APUS Technology Co., Ltd. is set to provide outstanding students with internships and job contracts both in China and Ghana throughout the one-year program.
