A fourth annual free clinic will offer comprehensive medical care and wellness screenings to Phoenix residents on Sunday, October 4. The event, hosted by the Umhlanga Business Network and the Phoenix Community Centre, will be held at the Phoenix Community Centre.
Professor Champak Jinabhai, chairperson of the Phoenix Community Centre board, noted that community members often neglect their own health while juggling family and daily responsibilities. The clinic aims to provide an opportunity for residents to pause, get checked, and receive professional advice without any cost concerns.
The clinic will offer various medical and allied health services, including blood pressure and blood sugar tests, vision assessments, dental care, HIV testing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, audiology, hearing screenings, cancer screenings, mental health support, dietician services, autism awareness, and referrals for further clinical intervention.
Organizers emphasized the importance of early detection and urged community members to prioritize their health. After a well-received clinic in July, the organizers are pleased to bring these services back to the community. Healthcare professionals and partner organizations, including Autism Action, UKZN School of Health Sciences, Phoenix Child Welfare, Whetstone Pharmacy, PNC Cancer Group, and the eThekwini Municipality, are supporting the outreach.
