Fans walk to remember ex-Wolves boss Graham Taylor

Football fans have taken part in a 270-mile walking challenge in tribute to former Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Graham Taylor OBE. The trek, known as the Taylor Trek Extreme, began on 23 September and spanned 12 days, as participants walked a route connecting four clubs Taylor managed throughout his career. On Monday, the walkers reached Molineux Stadium, home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, where Taylor served as manager from March 1994 until November 1995.

The challenge commenced in Lincoln City and will continue to Aston Villa, Wembley, and finally Watford on 4 October.

John Richards, a former player and vice-president of Wolverhampton Wanderers, expressed his appreciation for the fans honoring Taylor's legacy. Richards praised Taylor's honesty, genuine nature, and dedication, which earned him high respect. The challenge was organized by Watford FC's Community Sports & Education Trust, with Kristian Hitchins, the charity's head of business services, participating in the trek. Hitchins emphasized Watford's commitment to engaging players in community activities, mirroring Taylor's approach.

Paul Berry, from the Wolves Foundation, welcomed the walkers to Molineux Stadium, highlighting Taylor's commitment to community engagement during his time at Wolverhampton. Taylor's career included leading Watford from the Fourth Division to the FA Cup final in 1984 and managing Aston Villa to second place in the First Division. He also managed England and Wolverhampton Wanderers before becoming the club's manager in 1994. Taylor passed away in 2017 at the age of 72.
