Could be a good omen: Klopp matches 60-year-old unwanted record

Jürgen Klopp has been Germany's head coach since his appointment, yet his early performances have been disappointing. Germany has only managed one point from two games, securing third place in the Nations League table. This failure is all the more remarkable considering the current state of German football. Klopp's initial matches against the Netherlands and Greece resulted in a 0:0 draw and a 0:1 loss, respectively.

The coach's reluctance to stick with a team that was not cohesive has also been questioned. However, such a lack of wins by a Germany head coach in their first two games is exceptionally rare. The last instance of this occurred over 60 years ago, when Helmut Schön managed a 1:1 draw against Sweden and Italy in 1964. It is worth noting that Schön went on to lead Germany to the European Championship title in 1972 and the World Cup in 1974, featuring legendary players like Beckenbauer and Müller.

While it is unlikely that the current DFB generation will replicate this level of success, the comparison between Klopp and Schön reveals that good things can take time to materialize.
