Chargers make NFL history in worst way possible after loss to Bills

On Sunday, the Los Angeles Chargers made NFL history in the most unfortunate way possible with their loss to the Buffalo Bills. According to Pro Football Reference, since 2013, teams that accumulate 5+ turnovers and a -4 turnover margin have a dismal 3-81-1 record, all of those three victories coming against the Chargers. Their previous losses were against the Broncos in 2015 and the Jaguars in 2023.

The Chargers' defense held up admirably, matching the high standards set by head coach Jim Harbaugh. Their Week 3 performance showcased their finest effort of the season, coming against a potent offense spearheaded by quarterback Josh Allen. The Chargers forced the Bills and Allen to surrender five turnovers, including three fumbles and two interceptions.

However, the Chargers' offense failed to provide the team with a winning opportunity. They managed a touchdown and three field goals despite experiencing six drives that concluded within the Buffalo 30-yard line.

Harbaugh expressed his disappointment in the loss, stating, "We did not win the game. That’s painful. That hurts. There was a lot of opportunity. And we’ve got to capitalize on that. We have to be better." The Chargers have struggled in creating turnovers in the past decade, registering a 2-2 record when achieving 5+ turnovers. This loss marks the team's first 0-3 start since 2017.
