Bundestag: Spahn gibt Posten im Haushaltsausschuss auf

Berlin - Former Union faction leader Jens Spahn has resigned from his seat on the Bundestag's Budget Committee after only a few weeks. In a statement to Reuters, the CDU politician announced his decision following "reflective consideration over the weekend," stating that he would waive his seat on the HHA. Spahn cited the current highly politicized environment surrounding his personal matters, which he believes makes it "hardly possible to work normally."

He also noted that it would be premature to resume his work with full intensity upon his departure in July, as if nothing had happened. In consultation with CDU/CSU faction leader Thorsten Frei, Spahn has decided to prioritize his work for his electoral district and family for now, with a future decision pending. Spahn had previously faced controversy for missing a Budget Committee session he had only recently taken part in, sparking criticism from some CDU budgeters.

The 46-year-old, seen as a key figure in the conservative-liberal coalition, stepped down from his Fraktion chairman role in July amid extensive criticism, receiving support from Frei and CSU chief Markus Söder in his return to the party.
