Bauchi woman arrested over alleged killing of co-wife

A 33-year-old housewife, Hauwa’u Haruna, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly killing her co-wife, Jamila Adamu, at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi metropolis. According to police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib, the incident occurred on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at around 4:05pm after a domestic altercation between the two women who shared the same household.

Haruna is alleged to have struck Adamu, 43, with a pestle on the forehead during the argument, causing her to collapse and become unconscious. The victim was later rushed to Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where doctors confirmed her death. Her remains were sent to the mortuary for autopsy. Police have recovered the pestle used in the attack as evidence.

Haruna was taken into custody in connection with the incident and it is alleged that she acted under the influence of hallucinations. The Commissioner of Police has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and prosecution. The CP also expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and urged residents to seek immediate medical and psychosocial support for those facing mental health issues.

The police department also advised the public to report instances of domestic violence promptly to the relevant authorities.
