At least four dead, others missing in avalanche as severe weather batters Nepal

At least four individuals lost their lives and a further six Nepalis remain missing after an avalanche struck the Himlung Himal base camp in central Nepal, according to organizers. The camp was preparing for an upcoming expedition from the United Arab Emirates, which was set to commence on October 1. The devastating snow and rock slide occurred as severe weather warnings were in effect for parts of the Himalayan nation.

Organizers have confirmed that four bodies have been recovered, with search operations still underway. The National Trust for Nature Conservation recently suspended entry permits to nearby conservation areas from September 24 to 26 due to heavy rainfall. Barun Bhandari, general manager of Himalayan Holidays, the company organizing the expedition, expressed devastation over the loss, stating that six to seven crew members were missing and they are still working to confirm the exact number.

He emphasized the unpredictability of the mountain and their ongoing efforts to rescue the missing personnel, despite challenging communication conditions.
