(Asiad) Kim Yeong-nam wins diving silver, denies 1-2 finish by China

NAGOYA, Japan - Kim Yeong-nam secured a silver medal in the men's 1-meter springboard diving competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Monday. He outpaced China's Wang Zongyuan, who earned 442.75 points, but fell just short of the gold, which went to another Chinese diver, Liu Chengzan, with 361.45 points. The 1-meter springboard event made its Asian Games debut in 1990, and China had claimed gold and silver in every competition since then until Kim's victory.

Prior to Kim, South Korea's Woo Haram had won three consecutive bronze medals in this event, from 2014 to 2023. On the same day, Kim Su-ji claimed bronze in the women's 1-meter springboard, with 245.05 points, while Lin Shan and Long Yiping of China took home the gold and silver with 263.05 points and 254.25 points, respectively.

This marked Kim's second medal at the games, following her silver in the women's synchronized 3-meter springboard event on Sunday.
