AMD to acquire Fei-Fei Li's World Labs in $8.2 billion deal

Advanced Micro Devices announced on Monday the acquisition of Fei-Fei Li's World Labs startup for a deal valued at $8.2 billion. World Labs, based in San Francisco, raised $1 billion in a funding round earlier this year. The company specializes in developing spatial-intelligence models, which is a novel approach to AI that focuses on the ability to reason about the 3D world, as opposed to relying on 2D data like flat images or text.

Fei-Fei Li, the founder of World Labs, will take on the role of executive vice president and chief scientist at AMD, reporting directly to Lisa Su. The acquisition is anticipated to be finalized by the end of 2026.
