ADC queries identities as APC welcomes northern defectors

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has questioned the identities and credentials of individuals the All Progressives Congress (APC) has presented as former candidates from Northern Nigeria who have defected to the ruling party. The ADC claims these individuals are neither its candidates nor leaders, accusing the APC of awarding "imaginary ADC credentials" to people it received at its national secretariat.

This comes after the APC welcomed the defectors, with the party's national chairman, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, urging them to return to their respective states and local government areas to mobilize support for the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections. Yilwatda also warned that attempting to restore fuel subsidy would harm the North and halt ongoing projects in various sectors.

The ADC's delegation, led by Aslam Aliyu, known as Gimbiyar Kauran Namoda, included Mohammed Hassan, an ADC candidate from Zamfara State, who stated that the defectors were joining the APC with the goal of contributing to the party's "Renewed Hope Agenda" in the 2027 elections.
