2027: Northern candidates should wait till 2031 to contest – Kano Gov, Yusuf

Kano Governor Abba Yusuf has advised presidential hopefuls to delay their campaigns until 2031 before vying for the nation's highest office. In a recent address at the Government House in Kano, Yusuf emphasized the importance of rotating power between the Northern and Southern regions of Nigeria. He proposed that each region be given the opportunity to govern for two consecutive terms, allowing ample time for the implementation of major policies and development programs.

Yusuf stressed that permitting the South to complete its two-term cycle would ensure that power returns to the North in 2031. He urged political stakeholders, particularly those in the North, to exercise patience and allow the ongoing political arrangement to play out, urging northern aspirants to postpone their ambitions until after the 2027-2031 tenure.
