2027: Makinde says APM can reset Nigeria in four years

Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, Seyi Makinde, has declared that Nigeria can be transformed in just four years if he is elected president in 2027. During a North Central Town Hall Meeting in Lafia, capital of Nasarawa State, Makinde outlined his plans to introduce a new security architecture, revolutionize education, and modernize the economy using data, science, and logic.

He also vowed to establish a transitional government of national unity that would culminate in new players and a sustainable development agenda for Nigeria.

Makinde criticized the federal government's approach to addressing insecurity, especially in the North-Central region, questioning the planning behind the establishment of additional army divisions. He pointed out that he did not see provisions for these divisions in the 2026 budget, calling for transparency regarding their funding. The governor emphasized that tackling insecurity necessitates proper planning and adequate budgetary allocations.

Addressing the issue of state governments receiving increased funds from the federation account, Makinde noted that the increased allocations have not translated into improved living conditions for Nigerians. He highlighted that while the state's dependence on federal allocation has decreased since his tenure as Oyo State Governor began in 2019, it has since returned to a high level. According to Makinde, this is a result of "voodoo economics."
