2027: APC campaign coordinator speaks on Tinubu’s chances in South-west

Former Osun Central Senator Olusola Adeyeye has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will retain the South-West in the 2027 presidential election if the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains united. Adeyeye, who currently serves as the South-West Coordinator of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, spoke on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics on September 27, 2026.

He warned that anyone underestimating the 2027 election would be making a mistake, emphasizing that the APC is working diligently to secure a major victory. Adeyeye affirmed that the APC would not only win the South-West but also achieve a significant triumph, stating, "I want to assure you that we will win big. I care that we win the South West, and we’re going to shock everybody."

He argued that other parties should not underestimate the 2027 election, stating, "I make bold: anyone from any party who thinks the next election will be easy for it is suffering self-delusion. We in the APC, we work very hard to win, and I want to assure you that we will win." Adeyeye also drew a historical parallel, citing former President Olusegun Obasanjo's victory despite losing several regions, to suggest that losing the South-West would not disqualify Tinubu from winning the presidency.

"In the worst scenario, let us say that Bola Tinubu lost the South-West; I guarantee you he will not," he said. "But if he does, have we forgotten that another Yoruba man lost the South-West and became the President? Did (former President Olusegun) Obasanjo not lose his ward, lose his polling booth, lose his state, lose his zone, lose every state in the South-West and yet become President?"

Adeyeye further expressed confidence that the APC would win Osun State in the 2027 election. He attributed the popularity of Governor Ademola Adeleke, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to his family, noting that it was not primarily for the governor. When asked about the potential threat posed by former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, who is now associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Adeyeye questioned the ADC’s performance in the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election and Aregbesola’s performance in Osun Central.

He stated that while Aregbesola is admired, his personal following could not be automatically transferred to another candidate. "If he were a candidate, believe you me, anybody would be hard-pressed to beat him in Osun, but where he’s not the candidate, even he must not deceive himself that he can automatically take the affection for him to another person," he added.

Adeyeye emphasized the importance of unity within the APC to ensure success in the South-West region, stating that any party divided could potentially lose the election.
