Zelensky says over 10,000 Russian troops killed or wounded this week as Ukrainian military advances in Lyman sector

President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Ukrainian forces eliminated or wounded over 10,000 Russian soldiers in the Lyman sector of Donetsk Oblast during the week ending September 27, according to a statement on the social media platform X. The Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief, Mykhailo Drapatyi, provided the official figure, which was corroborated by Ukraine's video evidence of each Russian casualty.

Zelensky emphasized that Ukrainian forces are achieving their objectives as they continue to eliminate Russian occupiers. Russia, however, does not disclose its military losses, making the reported numbers unverifiable. According to Ukraine's General Staff, Russian forces have suffered over 300,000 casualties since the start of 2026, and over 1.5 million since the full-scale invasion began.

The Ukrainian military operation in the Lyman sector is part of Operation Vivaldi, alongside defensive operations involving Ukraine's Air Assault Forces. Heaviest fighting has been reported in Pokrovsk, Kostiantynivka, and Lyman sectors, with additional operations taking place in Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Sumy oblasts. Zelensky did not provide details on territorial gains.
