Washington denounces Iran’s truce proposal as ‘cynical’

The United States has labeled Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as "cynical," according to a top US official. Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, presented the plan at the United Nations, which includes releasing frozen Iranian assets, lifting sanctions on Iranian oil, and ending the US naval blockade. US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz dismissed the proposal, stating it was an "unacceptable" attempt to gain concessions without meeting Iran's demands.

President Donald Trump also rejected the deal, citing Iranian leaders' apparent desperation. In response, Araghchi accused Waltz of making "old, unproved accusations" and said Iran is prepared to open the strait if the US complies with Iran's terms. Araghchi expressed pessimism about the likelihood of a deal, stating there is no reason to return to diplomacy with the current administration due to its policies over the past two years.
