The State Journal-Register is seeking the athlete of the week for the week of September 21-26, sponsored by Heartland Credit Union. The poll closes on Friday, October 2. Voters can submit their nominations by the end of each Friday through the email address sports@sj-r.com. Last week, Jack Turner from Havana was named the winner of the poll. Here are the nominees for this week:

Lucy Ambrose from Springfield High excelled in volleyball, contributing 11 kills, 10 digs, and two aces to lead her team to a 28-26, 21-25, 25-23 victory over Sacred Heart-Griffin and securing the City title for the second time.

Talon DiGiovanna from Athens showcased his prowess in football, amassing 135 yards and two touchdowns in a 39-29 win against Auburn.

Collin Frontone, a sophomore from Williamsville, secured both the individual and team Sangamo Conference titles with a 2-under 70 score at The Rail Golf Course.

Khordell Gregory, a junior quarterback from Rochester, contributed 134 yards and three touchdowns in a 65-21 win over Chatham Glenwood, earning the title of football player of the week.

Hannah Holliday from Williamsville, a junior volleyball player, delivered 16 kills, 23 digs, two blocks, and two aces in a 20-25, 25-19, 25-20 win over Athens.

Ed Horton, a senior running back from Springfield High, ran for a remarkable 213 yards and three touchdowns in a 56-22 win against Southeast.

Dallas Hubbartt from Pana claimed the South Central Conference title in boys golf with a 1-under 71 score at the Indian Springs Golf Course, defeating Greenville's Christian Swalley on the final playoff hole.

Izzabell Janus from Staunton claimed the South Central Conference title in girls golf with an 88 score at the Indian Springs Golf Course.

Lauryn Kelly, a sophomore from Sacred Heart-Griffin, claimed the Central State Eight Conference title with a 6-over 78 score at Hickory Point Golf Course.

Emma Sabatka, a junior from Pleasant Plains, contributed 15 digs, 11 assists, and five kills in a 25-18, 16-25, 25-22 win against Athens and also provided nine assists and eight digs in another win against Staunton.

Ethen Smith-Dubois from Williamsville proved crucial in a 2-1 Sangamo Conference win over Athens, scoring the go-ahead goal and assisting Owen Patton.

Hayleigh Woker, a senior from Auburn, repeated as the Sangamo Conference champion in girls golf, amassing an 88 at Edgewood Golf Club.
