US thanks Turkey, Oman, UAE for supporting sanctions against Iran

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has expressed gratitude to Turkey, Oman, and the UAE for their support of Washington's "Operation Economic Outcast" - a stringent economic campaign targeting Iran. In a tweet on X, Bessent stated that his teams were dispatched worldwide to urge nations into action against Iran's regime. He noted that these efforts are yielding results.

Bessent specifically highlighted Turkey's and Oman's actions in stopping incoming flights from Mahan Air, a private carrier. The UAE has also halted all flights by Iranian airlines. Dubai, as the UAE's bustling commercial center, is a key destination for Iran's airlines, hosting numerous daily flights and a sizable Iranian community with robust business ties.

Moreover, the Treasury Secretary emphasized fresh banking sanctions. On Wednesday, the UAE central bank barred transactions with Iran by branches of Iran's Bank Melli, accusing it of breaching anti-money laundering, terrorism, and weapons proliferation laws. A week prior, Turkey had revoked Iran's Bank Mellat's operating license - a semi-private financial institution under Western sanctions for years.

Bessent concluded by expressing appreciation to the UK, Turkey, Oman, and the UAE, stating their continued cooperation would be essential as more steps are needed to thwart Tehran's purported terrorist activities. Since the launch of Operation Economic Outcast, the US Treasury has imposed targeted financial measures against banks and aviation service providers, dispatching teams globally to urge nations to act against Iran's regime.
