Tinubu’s absence: Nigerians deserve openness, not secrecy – ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for full transparency from the Nigerian government concerning the prolonged absence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the country. The opposition party expressed deep concern over the President's continued absence, which has lasted more than six days since the expiration of his originally announced three-week vacation.

ADC's Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, emphasized that the public deserves a clear and verifiable explanation regarding the President's whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding his extended stay abroad.

The ADC argues that the President's absence raises serious questions about the exercise of presidential authority in Nigeria, especially given the nation's current economic pressures, widespread hardship, and persistent security challenges. They stress that Nigerians elected Tinubu to lead the country and have a legitimate expectation of being kept informed about matters affecting presidential authority.

The campaign council joins other Nigerians in demanding transparency, accountability, and respect for the constitutional responsibilities of the President.

The ADC specifically questions the decision to extend the vacation and the appointment of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to represent the President at official functions. While the Presidency may provide administrative explanations, the ADC maintains that these explanations do not address the fundamental issue of who is effectively in charge of the Federal Republic of Nigeria during the President's absence.

They urge the government to provide Nigerians with a comprehensive and unambiguous explanation to alleviate public anxiety and speculation.
