Three, including elderly couple, killed in separate accidents

Three people, including an elderly couple, lost their lives and a young boy sustained injuries in two separate road accidents in the district. The first incident took place on Sunday, September 27, 2026, in Kothamangalam. Jose Varghese, 66, and his wife Susan, 57, were killed when their scooter collided head-on with a private bus while navigating a curve at Thundam junction on Vadattupara road.

Despite being rushed to a private hospital in Kothamangalam, the couple was declared dead upon arrival. The police registered a case against the bus driver for alleged rash driving and causing death by negligence. The other accident occurred the previous night, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, near Kuzhikkattukara Juma Masjid in Edathala.

Rameesh, a 34-year-old man, died at the scene after being struck by a truck, while his six-year-old son Ridan, who was riding pillion, sustained injuries. The Edathala police have registered a case over this incident.
