The second Autonomous Summit shifts up a gear for autonomous mobility in the port

The Autonomous Summit is set to intensify its focus on implementation, showcasing how autonomous technology is being deployed in larger-scale operations at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. Initially, the summit highlighted the technological possibilities, but now it aims to accelerate the integration of autonomous trucks, ships, trains, and drones into the port ecosystem.

The first commercial roll-out of an autonomous truck is slated for this autumn, transporting containers between the Left and Right Banks of the port. This marks a significant step forward in the transition from demonstration projects to practical, large-scale applications. The Port of Antwerp-Bruges is working with Inceptio Technology and logistics provider Group-GTS to pilot the autonomous truck, which will operate day and night, transporting containers between the Group-GTS depot and multiple terminals on the Right Bank.

This initiative aims to explore the long-term integration of autonomous trucks into logistics operations and their potential to scale across North Sea ports and beyond. Port officials emphasize the port's role as a testing ground for autonomous technologies, highlighting the benefits of increased efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

They also stress the importance of a robust regulatory framework to support the safe and responsible rollout of these technologies, aligning with the broader efforts of the Benelux region to establish unified standards.
