Tamil Nadu CM Vijay to launch one-gram gold ring scheme for newborns in Madurai

In a recent incident, a content creator from Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, lost assets worth nearly Rs 1 crore to a burglary. Madhumitha, who boasts over 4.5 lakh followers, was known for her frequent posts showcasing her family's extravagance, including gold jewelry and substantial amounts of cash. Some of her social media posts also disclosed details about family outings and travel plans.

Police are currently investigating whether her online activities provided the thieves with sufficient information to commit the crime. On Thursday evening, while the family was away, burglars broke into their home near Nagercoil and made off with approximately 118-120 sovereigns of gold jewelry, diamond ornaments, and Rs 50,000 in cash.

The weight of the stolen gold is estimated to be around 944-960 grams, with one sovereign typically weighing about eight grams. The police are examining Madhumitha's social media activity to ascertain if the burglars used her posts to identify family valuables or routines and target the house accordingly. Madhumitha's earlier videos featured her wearing jewelry, displaying cash, and discussing regular gold purchases.

One video, which garnered significant attention, showed her showering Rs 500 notes over her young child. Another video discussing how she protected her valuables has resurfaced after the burglary. Industrialist Harsh Goenka commented on the incident, stating, "Burglary is wrong, period. But is your sympathy with her?" Social media users have expressed a range of reactions, with some advocating for the investigation and a tax notice to be issued to the culprits, regardless of the losses incurred.
