The Irish national football team has decided to play against Israel in a UEFA Nations League match despite opposition from the public. While one player initially declined to participate, the team ultimately voted to play, with a majority of players choosing to wear black uniforms to protest against the Israeli actions in Gaza. The team's goalkeeper, Éamon Blunt, stated that his decision was based on his belief that the killing of innocent people is wrong.

FAI representative David Curl confirmed that the team will also donate the match fees for their upcoming match against Serbia and the one against Austria to a charity organization. Various organizations, such as "Football for Palestine," have been campaigning for the cancellation of the game, pressuring the Irish football team to withdraw.

Some players have even decided to leave the team to protest against Israel. The Irish government emphasized that all decisions regarding the match are solely up to the Irish Football Association and the European Football Association, stating that they have strongly advocated for Israel's exclusion from international football competitions in the past.
