SIR tweaks proof of 'disaster', says Congress

Congress persisted with its protest against the EC on Sunday, claiming that the proposed special intensive revision measures were an admission that the electoral roll exercise had been a disaster. The party argued that the piecemeal efforts to remove deleted or at-risk voters would not sufficiently address the mass disenfranchisement.

The statement emerged as opposition parties coordinated to amplify their protest. Congress sources indicated that SP chief Akhilesh Yadav had informed party officials that Rajya Sabha nominations for 10 UP seats were beginning, leading him to send senior party members. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal announced that the party would organize district-level protests against CEC Gyanesh Kumar on Monday.

Spokesperson Jairam Ramesh denounced the Election Commission's press note as a desperate damage control attempt that offered no answers, questioning the purpose of the Special Intensive Revision process that had become a colossal waste of public resources and a nuisance for citizens.
