See Nigeria as our inheritance, collective assignment – Gov Abiodun

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has called upon Nigerians to perceive their country as a shared inheritance, urging them to treat the nation's future as a collective responsibility. On the 66th Independence Anniversary, Abiodun emphasized that citizens owe it to future generations to maintain a peaceful, prosperous, and just country. Represented by Deputy Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor urged Nigerians to focus on future potential rather than current challenges.

Governor Abiodun highlighted that while government plays a significant role in development, citizens must also work together to build a robust nation. He praised President Bola Tinubu for the economic reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, expressing confidence that these policies would lead to improved infrastructure, livelihoods, and economic opportunities.

Abiodun's administration remains dedicated to expanding economic programs, strengthening public institutions, and investing in human capital until the conclusion of his tenure.

The governor emphasized that true governance is measured by the improvement of lives and creation of opportunities, rather than merely the number of projects initiated. Abiodun also appealed to political leaders and religious organizations to promote peace, mutual respect, and responsible civic engagement ahead of future elections. He emphasized that disagreements can occur without becoming enemies, competitions can happen without violence, and differing opinions can be expressed while respecting others' rights.

In his sermon titled "A Call to Repentance," Archbishop Michael Fape of Lagos, who also serves as Bishop of Remo, encouraged leaders and citizens to abandon corruption and seek divine guidance. Fape identified greed as the primary driver of corruption, cautioning against disguising corrupt practices as public relations. He noted that Nigeria has yet to reach its full potential due to infrastructural decay, struggling health and tertiary institutions, and business closures.

Fape applauded Governor Abiodun for the development efforts in Ogun State and urged residents to avoid the politics of hatred.
