Resident doctors give FG two-week ultimatum to avert strike

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has issued a two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government, demanding resolution of outstanding welfare and professional issues affecting its members or face industrial action. This ultimatum was part of resolutions reached during the 46th Annual General Meeting of NARD, held in Calabar, Cross River State.

Despite numerous meetings and assurances, several agreements between NARD and the Federal Government remain unresolved, leading to concerns over remuneration, career progression, professional allowances, manpower shortages, and working conditions. NARD's National President, Dr Emmanuel Ogar, highlighted the unacceptable delays in implementing these agreements and called for an immediate review and implementation of existing remuneration and professional salary structures.

The association also demanded compensation for additional responsibilities taken on due to staff shortages and improved hospital infrastructure, adequate medical equipment, and better working conditions. The ultimatum comes after several disputes over salaries, allowances, training funds, and other welfare demands.
