Ramaphosa orders security forces to curb violent crime

President Cyril Ramaphosa has directed law enforcement agencies to operate around the clock in an effort to reduce criminal activity levels in the country. This response followed a string of mass shootings, with eleven deaths in KwaZulu-Natal last week, ten killed and eleven wounded in Lwandle, Cape Town early Sunday, and seventeen fatalities in Carletonville, west of Johannesburg on Saturday night.

Ramaphosa emphasized that the government must significantly reduce criminality and lawlessness immediately, stating that the current level of violence is intolerable. He assured the public that the security forces are intensifying their efforts to combat violent crime, leveraging technology to identify suspects involved in recent attacks. The ANC President condemned the recent shootings and called for an end to gender-based violence.
